End Grain Boards

End grain is the pattern of wood grain that appears when a piece of wood is cut across the growth rings. It's also known as the cross-sectional surface of a piece of wood.
Characteristics
Durable: End grain wood is more durable than edge grain wood.
Resistant to impact: The vertical wood fibers in end grain wood make it resistant to impact.
Gentle on knives: End grain wood is easier on knives and knife marks are less visible.
Self-healing: End grain wood can be repaired with mineral oil treatment and sanding.
Uses
End grain wood is used to make cutting boards. End grain cutting boards are gentler on knives and have self-healing properties.
End grain wood is also used to make butcher blocks. End grain butcher blocks are durable and distress at a slower pace over time than edge grain blocks.
